Summary

 Branch Rickey, the president of the Dodgers is inspired to make a social experiment; to have an African American baseball player in a all white major league. His inspiration started when he was a coach for Ohio Wesleyan and had a black player named Charley, he was with the team when the team went to go stay at a hotel. The hotel manger did not allow Charley to stay, so instead Branch told the manger to put a cot in his room. Charley felt ashamed and heartbroken that he wanted to peel the skin off so that he would be white. The Branch told him, "the day will come when they won't have to be white." Many years later Branch Rickey became the president of the Dodgers and was looking for a way to have equality for blacks and whites in baseball. He was looking for black baseball player who was good enough not to fight back in a game if someone where to insult him. A reporter named Wendell Smith told Branch about a good baseball player named Jackie Robinson that was black. After that Branch began his investigation on Jackie. Jackie goes to meet Branch the next day. Branch was giving Jackie situations that might happen in a baseball game. Jackie passed the test and became part of Montreal Royals. 

Theme

     The conflict of The Night I Followed the Dog is about a boy that starts getting suspicious about his dogs where about's and one night follows him. Then after he starts spying on him, the dog keeps surprising the boy with things like his dog house look like a real home, he has a limo, and his dog owns a club for dogs. The theme of the story is that sometimes people are not what then seem to be.

Paper Reflection

        The writing process of the paper was very difficult. The way the organizer was planned was very confusing because having to separate the information into too many parts was very hard. I think I did very well with including all of my details in the paper. My goal is to work on my grammar skills in writing. Also my other goal is to include more transition words.

The sting of the Box Jellyfish is one of the most horrible experience because of the venom . It attacks the heart, nervous system, and damages skin cells. The venom one stung can kill within minutes. The venom causes significant pain and can leave horrible scars (National Geographic.)

Having lack of sleep, in the night, can leave with many side affects such as grogginess, forgetfulness, and clumsiness. In fact if you go a day without sleep you seem like you're drunk. Brain cells can also die because of lack of sleep.

Having a lack of sleep can affect both kids and adults with horrible side affects.  It affects grown-ups in many ways such as, concentration loss, poor health, horrible job performance, and always being in a bad mood. Author's POV + Purpose

1. The author's point of view is that Americans doesn't care what happened in Kenya, they only care about what happened in Paris. One example is that the author says that "Yet back in April There was almost nothing about it on Facebook and Twitter. There was no outpouring of sadness and support, as there was for Paris." Also the author says that "Many people feel that we react to terrible events differently depending on whom the victims are.". Finally the authors says " People posted old photos of themselves in front of the Eiffel Tower. Others said they were praying for Paris.".
2. I agree with the author's point of view because it's true. Only if it affects us then we care. Also if everyone especially on social media is talking about it, then that when it's a huge deal.
3. The author's purpose is to persuade the reader that people only care about what affects them anything else. For example the author says that " Many people feel that we react to terrible events differently depending on whom the victims are. Some deaths seem to matter more to us then others.".
